CHAPTER 3
The encounter
After we had recovered and asked where we were, we continued. Everyone thanked the hotel team for the great hospitality and for taking care of Max and Lisa.
To say goodbye, hotel manager Jahnke handed us a small gift basket. We gratefully accepted this. Then it went on.
Since we were in the Alps, everyone decided unanimously to go on a hiking tour. It was a beautiful but cold day. It was white everywhere. We kept seeing skiers and children rushing down the mountains with their sledges.
When it was midday, Martin saw a restaurant. He asked us: "Are you as hungry as I am?" Everyone said: "Yes." So we went in. A waitress served us. She asked if we already wanted to order something. Everyone said, "Yes, gladly." After 5 minutes, she came back with the drinks. She also gave us a note. When we asked her who he was, she only replied: "From a man." We thanked him.
Then Jette read out: “Come to the old shaft at 4pm. Expect you already. Signed: Mr. X. “Everyone was very surprised at this news. Because who knew our names and how did they know we were here?
When we had eaten, Martin wanted to pay. But the waitress said: "This goes to the house." Everyone thanked for that. Then it went on.
All the way, we wondered who might have written this message. Jenny thought that maybe it was one of the hostages who was also on the train. But we should know soon.
In the evening we asked a man if he knew where an old shaft was. He replied: "There is no old shaft here." We thanked you for the information. That was very surprising. Jette said it might be some kind of a puzzle and we would have to find the place first. Everyone agreed.
Around 8:15 p.m. we found a hotel. It wasn't expensive. Max and Lisa were allowed to sleep in the room. Everyone found this day mysterious. Around 10 p.m. we fell asleep.
The next morning, everything was covered with snow so that nobody came out. The worst part was that there was no food and we had no connection to the outside. Now a little adventure began. We considered what could be done. Martin had an idea and said, "I have it. How about swimming? ”Everyone thought:“ It's a great idea. ”So we went to the swimming pool that belonged to the hotel. Everyone stayed all day. It was just lovely. Then we wanted to get our things out of the locker. But they weren't. Everyone thought it was a bad joke. Everyone searched everything again. But no trace of our clothes. Suddenly Jette shouted: "I found our things! Come here! ”Everyone ran. Then we had to laugh because after the shower we had exchanged the key. There were two keys with the same number in the shower room.
Now we went back to our room, where Max and Lisa were already waiting for us. Martin checked his watch and said: "Already 6.30pm!" Suddenly there was a knock on the door. It was the maid. She says: "We have electricity again and winter service has pushed the snow away." Everyone was very happy about that. Now it was time for dinner. The food was delicious. On this day, everyone could take as much as they wanted.
Then it went back to the room. There we discussed what to do the next day. After a long session, we decided to continue hiking the next morning. So it happened. We wanted to pay for our nights, but someone else had already done that. In any case, the woman at the reception said: "Everything is already done." So we moved on and took our bags. Of course, Max and Lisa couldn't be missing either.
The weather was wonderful and cold. The landscape looked like it was painted. It was a while before we saw houses again.
Since it was already getting dark, everyone was looking for a place to stay. Everyone saw a hut. We went in. But it didn't go as everyone thought. Because when we had just fallen asleep there was a knock on the door. The man called in a deep voice: "Get out of my house and never show up here again." Max and Lisa barked at him. But it didn't help.
We packed our things, took our two protectors with us and looked for another hut where everyone could stay. The next morning there was breakfast: bread, butter, cheese, sausage, jam and cocoa. After this good meal it went on. The day was full of surprises.
The further we got into the valley, the warmer it got. There was no more snow, the flowers bloomed in the meadows, the sun was shining and the birds were chirping.
On the way we met a hiker who stopped us and gave Jette a note. Then he left without saying a word. We read the note. It was getting more and more mysterious. Martin said thoughtfully: "I think I know which place is meant. But I can't remember what his name is. ”Everyone pondered and puzzled all day. But nobody had an idea. But we didn't give up. It was getting dark. Suddenly called
Jenny: "I now know which place is meant!" We were very excited about the answer. Anika asked impatiently: "Which place is it Jenny?" She replied: "It is Ischgl."
"But that's far too far away," said Evelyn. "Yes," replied Anika. "But we want to solve the riddle." Evelyn agreed. When that was settled, we agreed to drive in 2 days. Everyone was looking forward to this trip, because we should finally find out who wrote the notes. We thought there was nothing going on in the afternoon and evening.
Everyone was sitting in their rooms and watching TV. Suddenly someone shouted: "Fire! Fire! Save yourself who can! ”Then the people panicked out of their rooms and ran towards the exit. The staff tried in vain to calm people down. Some people were just run over. We also heard crying children who could not find their parents and other people who were injured in the panic. Dozens of paramedics took care of the people.
The police officers who were on site closed the area. There were many onlookers. These hindered the fire brigade. Only the police could clear the way for her.
It took at least 2 hours for the fire to be under control.
Everyone was saved. Max and Lisa too. The 5 of us got away with a shock.
The police took care of accommodation for everyone. To our surprise we should go to Ischgl. Of course, others drove with us. The police told us before the trip that the food and overnight stay were free because they had already arranged everything. Everyone thanked for that. Then we sat on the train and soon fell asleep. It was so quiet you could have heard a pin drop. While everyone was sleeping, we drove through a small country. Suddenly the train stopped in the open. As a result, some woke up and rubbed their eyes. A man went to the driver and asked him what was going on. He said: “There is a lot of snow up there. We can only continue in about 4 hours.
Disappointed, the man went back to our compartment. He said: We cannot go on. The train is stuck in the snow. ”One woman thought that the snow could be pushed away bit by bit. Everyone was immediately in favor.
Everyone helped shovel snow. After about 2 hours we were done. The rest of the trip went smoothly. At noon everyone was at the destination of the trip. First there was a good meal to strengthen. Then we were taken to our room. There was a surprise for us, because the things were already unpacked and neatly put in the closets. There was also a large room for the dogs to play. They were allowed to sleep in the room.
In the events we almost forgot that we still had a puzzle to solve. Everyone agreed that we wanted to leave early the next morning. Said and done.
Max and Lisa were tired at the beginning, but later the two were very lively and always ran away from the front. When it was noon we passed a small hut in the mountains. There we had a good meal that a man had cooked for us. After this delicious meal, we thanked him for the good lunch. Then it went on.
It was a wonderful day. But it should be over soon. Because when we came to a gorge, the incredible happened. None of us could believe what was happening.
Because suddenly Martin stumbled and fell down. Luckily there were bushes and shrubs below that dampened the fall. Martin lay motionless on the floor. Evelyn and Jette ran to get help. We were lucky enough to meet a man. The latter wanted to help immediately. So we took him to the scene of the accident. He looked down to get an idea of the situation. Then the man called the emergency doctor on his cell phone. When he had done this, he jumped into the canyon with a parachute and landed next to Martin.
Anika became thoughtful and said: "This is the man who saved our lives when we were preparing for this adventure trip."
That was weird. Jette thought he might have written the notes. Everyone said: "You could be right." And indeed he was.
We were waiting for the helicopter, which was coming soon. The emergency doctor told us that Martin had only broken his left arm and that he did not have to stay in the hospital. Everyone was happy about that.
Then it went back to the hotel.
