Short Stories : Interview With an Archangel (Chapter 10) |
CHAPTER 10
Sara had made sure by phone that the mighty entrance gate was closed immediately after their arrival. Her pursuers parked on the opposite side of the street. The tinted windows made it impossible to see the occupants. Her uncle, a true lord, received her at the entrance portal.
Sara literally flew up the white marble steps into the wide open arms of her favorite uncle. After a heartfelt hug, he greeted the two of them warmly and then led them into the interior of the wonderful old country house. Four servants followed them at a proper distance while two servants opened the doors in front of them until they arrived in a cozy room and the Lord sat them at a mighty table,
who dominated the room, sat down. A mighty fireplace enveloped the room in woolly warmth while the logs surrendered to their fate with a crackle.
Sara introduced her boyfriend and then gave a rough outline of why they were here. Her uncle did not interrupt her while his facial features became more and more tense, the more Sara continued with her report. In the meantime they were given tea which a butler served almost silently. Robespierre watched in amazement
how Sara poured some milk into the tea and decided to close it herself once
try. He had never drunk his tea with milk as this was completely unknown in France. After taking his first sip
he was pleasantly surprised. He decided to practice this way of drinking his tea more often. Sara ended her report by pointing out the black limousine
which had taken position opposite the entrance. The lord got up and informed the two that he would only go on the phone briefly, as he had good connections to the local authorities to fix this problem at short notice. His steps died in the fat Persian runner who cleverly divided this room in half
to end just before the double-leaf door.
They got a little more tea before the butler left the room.
You were alone. Robespiere turned to Sara to tell her that he intended to get his greatest treasure "Excalibur" out of the rover to make sure he was safe. He took his backpack and the artefact wrapped in a blanket and returned to his loved one. After entering the room again, he hid Excalibur behind a secretary. He pulled Sara's chair around to whisper in her ear: "Sara, do you think that your uncle can be trusted one hundred percent?" She looked at him indignantly before answering: "Of course you can trust him. I've known him since I got off my diaper. I put my hand in the fire for him. There is nothing evil to fear from this side. "
Her uncle stepped into the scene and beamed at her: “Your problem is being solved at the moment, a police patrol is checking your persecutors before they are taken to the station to interrogate them. We will shortly have knowledge of who is on your heels. You can now take a look at your room to freshen up a bit, as you both look pretty worn out. ”The last few days had been more than enough for them. A butler led her to her room even though Sara knew the way from her youth, as she successfully explored every corner of this mighty property as a child. Your room was furnished in a country house style and exuded a warmth and cosiness that invited you to linger for a longer period of time. Sara fell exhausted on the bed while Robespierre hurried downstairs to take his treasure and to find a safe hiding place for it in her room.
He looked under the bed and found a floorboard that he could remove, removed the dusty debris, which seemed to consist only of coarse ash, into a wastepaper basket he found under the desk. After filling it to the brim, he disposed of the ashes in the toilet so as not to leave any visible traces. He lovingly put Excalibur and also the amphora with the precious document in his hiding place and then carefully closed it with the floorboard. After he had completely undressed he entered the shower to surrender to the hot jets of water. After a few minutes he noticed Sara beautifully how Aphrodite entered the shower and joined him in a deep hug. Robespierre closed his eyes. A moment later he was at King Arthur's court. Robespierre tried to see his body. He didn't have one, and yet he was able to perceive everything around him.
He saw a large round table. Twenty-three nobly clad knights sat around them. Her armor shone in the sunlight that flooded the room from above to unite in the center of the table. Ten servants entered the room through a massive bronze gate. They carried long, curved copper rods to which precious carpets were attached, which they now attached to the brackets provided in the masonry. They now covered the arched windows in the upper area so that the room presented itself in complete darkness.
Torches were lit and bathed the room in a soft, cozy light.
Huge shadows of the stone statues behind each chair cast ghostly outlines on the wall of the absolutely circular room. Robespierre's attention was drawn again to the front gate when five blonde virgins entered the room. Their bodies were only covered by a long, white linen dress and gave an idea of their unmarked bodies in the light of the torches. The first wore a silver shield on which three French lilies intertwined with one another made of gold
were located that clearly stood out from the ground. The second carried a bowl made of crystal in which there was water that gently rocked back and forth due to her movement.
The virgin who followed her carried a bronze box about an inch long, which she opened so that a broken lance tip could be seen that shimmered from the ground, which consisted of red rock powder and covered more than half of the inside of this box. The fourth, and as Robespierre found the most beautiful, raised her hands towards the sky, whereupon a vessel materialized
whose outlines became more and more recognizable through a white cloth. Five servants rushed in to extinguish the torch lights. The room was now in complete darkness before the fifth, the fifth element, shot through his consciousness, carefully pulled on the cloth and a fire of light flooded the room to break through the darkness. The grail, bared only a quarter, showed its power and glory. As if by magic, the table was filled over and over with the most delicious dishes while Robespierre was able to take his eyes off the table to discover an unearthly glow in the eyes of the knights that reflected their joy at the arrival of the Grail. His gaze returned to the presence of the
holy chalice in order to recognize the material from which its composition was presented to it. He saw the shine of the Grail from a dark blue goblet that was burning out of the gold inclusions. His gaze turned from the goblet as he tried to make out the face of the virgin whose delicate hands clasped the grail. At the same moment he felt the presence of Sara who was still enjoying the shower together with him in an intimate embrace. Slowly he turned his head and saw that she had closed her eyes. Her mouth was surrounded by a tender smile which drove Robespierre's heart into the highest rapture. He told her about his vision which she followed eagerly. She laughed at him and said: "When you see your sword, your mighty sword, its unearthly power extends to you."
Thoughtfully he left the shower while Sara took care of her body.
They dressed for the upcoming dinner and a short time later went downstairs to refresh themselves. She was greeted with joy by her uncle, who was accompanied by a man in his forties whose stiff demeanor indicated a civil servant. After taking a seat at a three hundred year old table, the Lord rose to introduce his guest as Chief Inspector Willing of Scotland Yard, whereupon the latter addressed Sara.
“Milady, we took the liberty of checking the four people in the car that followed them from Salisbury. There are three Securite employees in the service of Lord Callingham. That lord has been opposing the English crown for some time. His ultimate goal is to abolish the monarchy but his real motive will be hurt pride and hurt vanity. He was banned from court years ago after he was suspected of being involved in indiscretion and extortion. Love letters had been stolen from Her Majesty long before she met her husband. Their content was so prikaer that they were under no circumstances allowed to reach the public. These letters were bought back by Buckingham Palace for a lot of money. Do you have any idea what these people wanted from you, of all people, Monsieur? ”He turned the word to Robespierre.
He replied that he had absolutely no idea. “By the way, the fourth man
of this honorable society is a Catholic priest who has identified himself as a member of Opus Dei (Work of God). "
Again he addressed Robespierre: "What is the reason for your stay in Great Britain, Monsieur?"
"I will visit my friend before she has to leave for Egypt again to resume her research work."
"So you have no idea what this little chase was all about?" Robespierre shook his head and the inspector made both of them feel that they knew more than they were ready to share. He shrugged and left the room without turning back. Sara looked at her uncle who looked at her questioningly. "I think I owe you an explanation." Sara told of the events of the last few days and ended with the Excalibur discovery. Her uncle followed her explanations eagerly. "You really found the legendary sword of Arthur?" "Yes," replied Sara and her eyes began to light up. “Do you have it here? May I see it? ”His gaze gave Robespierre no choice so that he immediately admitted it
Excalibur's hiding place rushed back to Sara and her uncle with the artifact.
“Sara,” began the Lord of Midford Castle, “I am really pleased to see you from the bottom of my heart, but this story really is the most incredible thing that my ears have ever heard. What are you going to do now? Don't you think that you have entered a terrain the extent of which you cannot see at all at the moment? "
"You are certainly right about your fears, but don't worry about us," Sara replied to continue in her remarks. “Robespierre is going to bring Excalibur to his client in France and I am going completely by accident
Discover Arthur's grave to explore it and put the artifacts in a museum. Something else, my dear uncle, we discovered a sarcophagus in the crypt that was decorated with three intertwined French lilies. I saw the same picture years ago when I visited a grave slab in Montségur. Do you know the family tree of the family that has this symbol in their coat of arms? ”The lord got up heavily and asked Sara into the library, which was presented to its visitors like a palace on the first floor. They met Sara's friend in the stairwell to enter the library together. In awe he took Excalibur from Robespierre's hands to caress the mighty blade lovingly while his eyes glanced at the seal ring fused with the sword
to fathom the fortifications that connected the two artifacts. A riddle that he couldn't solve in a hurry. He gave the sword to Robespierre
back to devote his attention to the bookshelves that built up on the walls in all their might to make their viewer pause in front of them in humility. Robespierre stepped into a side corridor to hide Excalibur.
He pushed it deep under one of the bookshelves, which his intuition had made him feel that it might not be so safe in her bedchamber after all if both artefacts were in the same place. He hurried back to the two of them. Sara's uncle didn't seem to have noticed his absence.
With a sure grip the lord took out a very old, leather-bound work, the cover of which was decorated with a gold-embossed emblem, the contours of which dug deep into the centuries-old leather.
Carefully he opened his treasure and began to leaf through it until he opened a page
on which the entwined lilies were represented on a coat of arms and it as that
Family coat of arms identified by Joseph of Arimathea. Sara looked over his shoulder in fascination as a powerful explosion shook the old mansion. Shots broke the silence. The property was stormed.
Sara's fearful gaze met her uncle as Robespierre took her hand.
"Is there another way out here?" Sara's voice rose to drown out the noise of the gunfire. "There is an old secret passage here, hurry up, follow me!" At lightning speed they crossed the hallways of the old library until the lord paused in front of a panel, the center of which was adorned with a bronze lion head. His eyes were set with green semi-precious stones. The Lord boldly reached into the left eye and pressed
the stone inside. The wooden wall slid silently aside to reveal a staircase leading downwards. At the foot of the stairs, a tunnel built with large boulders made its way into the darkness. The old lord embraced his niece heartily and whispered: "Run children, I'll take care of everything." He pushed her down the stairs and then locked the secret door from the outside again.
Robespierre lit his lighter and discovered torches on the right and left of the walls, which had been waiting for a long time in rusty iron mounts to be lit. Sara and he took the light dispenser to light it. They stepped deeper and deeper into the darkness while several old wooden doors blocked their way, but they were no real obstacle for Excalibur. Finally they reached the exit, which was about three hundred meters in front of the property, to end at an embankment that enclosed a horse paddock.
They climbed the wall to carefully take a look at the manor house. There was still shooting there. Three black Range Rovers were parked directly in front of the main entrance, followed by a heavy Jaguar limousine, all of whose doors were open. They had broken through the powerful entrance gate in order to gain entry to the property by force. Sara phoned the police during Robespierre
crawled on his stomach over the pebbles of the forecourt to cut the jaguar's tires with his pocket knife. They were bulletproof and impossible to puncture. They had to be made of some kind of solid rubber compound.
He returned to Sara. Shortly afterwards the shots stopped and five hooded figures fled the house. With a loud roar of engines and spinning tires, they disappeared into the darkness of the night. Shortly afterwards, sirens broke the silence that fell over the property after the escape.
Five emergency vehicles and two civil vehicles reached the forecourt. First and foremost hurried
Chief Inspector Willing followed by four officers into the manor house. Everyone else secured the site. Sara left her hiding place and Robespierre followed her at a proper distance because he suddenly felt absolutely in the wrong place. A servant received Sara and escorted her to the library. A pale chief inspector caught her at the door to spare her the sight of her dead uncle. He grabbed her arm and
opened the word: “Young lady, come outside with me, I want you
I would like to spare this sight. ”Sara managed to free herself from his grip and rush into the library. Two officers examined the motionless disfigured one
Body of her uncle. Around the corpse were pools of blood that desecrated the place
which had been built for muse and relaxation. Her gaze fell on the dead man's arm. Where his hand should be, only a bloody stump stuck out from under the sleeve of his sweater. The fingers of his hand lay individually on the old wooden floorboards. Sara vomited while the Inspector bravely jumped aside.
They had tortured him, it flashed through her mind as she stumbled outside. “You have no idea who is responsible for this mess?
Perhaps they did not know that their uncle and I had been good friends for over 20 years, more than good friends, he was like a brother to me. "His eyes were close to tears before he continued:" To see him here is beyond you few of my opportunities to remain friendly. Speak! What happened here? ”His gaze bored into Sara's eyes as Robespierre stepped into the hallway in front of the library. Fearfully, Sara turned to look at him. Her friend replied for her: “As you should know by now, your profession is archeology. Your were last Monthly clues leaked about King Arthur Pentdragon's tomb. We managed to find this grave. In the sarcophagus we found the skeleton of a king who held an amphora in his hands, the contents of which identified the king of England who is in possession of this document in connection with the mighty sword Excalibur. Unfortunately we have not been able to get hold of this sword
but I think our pursuers were after the charter. Presumably they assume that we are also in possession of this sword. You've followed us since Glastenbury, because that's where we discovered the grave. They must know about the document and are now trying by all means to get into the possession of the kingmakers. These artefacts must be worth a lot to someone if he is ready to attack this house. Your uncle fortunately made it possible for us to escape through a secret passage. By the way, where is he? ”“ He's dead, he was tortured before, ”Willing replied. "They probably wanted to squeeze our whereabouts out of my uncle," replied Robespierre.
The chief inspector made a few notes before turning his gaze back to Robespierre and asking: "Where is this document at the moment?"
He replied: "I hid the amphora in our bedroom under a floorboard." "Please bring me the artefact and its contents." He nodded to one of his officers, who followed Robespierre to make sure that he carried out his order . Willing ordered Sara and Robespierre to be shown into the drawing room as soon as it returned. He entered the library to complete the crime scene investigation.
They both led into the salon and positioned in front of the double-leaf door
after it was closed from the outside.
You were alone. There were signs of senseless devastation everywhere.
One bullet hole after the other on the walls. A machine gun sheaf
sifted through centuries-old art history treasures. The pictures and frames
will probably never be reconstructed. The furniture had been destroyed except for the dining table and spread a trace of destruction. Robespierre found two more or less intact chairs so that Sara and he could take a seat at the table after doing some tidying up. He took Sara's hand. Only then did the pain of the loss of her uncle discharge in a sea of tears. Her boyfriend gave her all the time she needed to calm down halfway. Carefully he dabbed the tears from her delicate face.
Before he could speak to her, the chief inspector entered the room.
He carried the amphora under his arm. Carefully he removed the lock and tried to grab the document with his fingers, which he did not succeed after several attempts, so he had to ask Sara to do it for him
to take the amphora. After carefully examining it, he carefully rolled up the parchment and carefully pushed it back into the amphora to place it on the tabletop. He built himself up in front of Robespierre with his mighty stature so as not to let any misunderstandings arise about his authority, but fixed Sara with his gaze to address the word to her: “In memory of her uncle, whom I treasured above all else, I will her let both go although there are three other murders of employees in this house. This artefact (he seized the amphora) I will immediately hand over to the antiquities authorities and ask you, monsieur, to leave our country immediately. As of today you are a “personality not fun “an undesirable person. From now on you have twelve hours to obey my request. Did you understand everything? ”He said yes, whereupon Willing immediately left the room.
Robespierre looked into Sara's desperate eyes. Her infinite sadness almost broke his heart. He took her hand carefully. At that moment, a sea of tears poured over her lovely face. "What do you have in front of my angel now?" He asked and handed her a handkerchief. After drying her tears, she grabbed her cell phone to call her father. After finishing their conversation, she turned to Robespierre to let him know of her decision. “You will leave England immediately. My father is out in the helicopter and will be here in the next half hour. He makes it available to you to return to Callais. Take Excalibur and bring it to Michael. I get out because there have been six deaths since our trip started. There must be a curse on Excalibur. Get it away from me, I don't want to have anything to do with this artifact that only spreads death. As soon as the situation has been resolved halfway, I'll be with you
Follow us to Callais. "He took her in his arms and asked her:" How have the rest of the servants fared? "" They had all been locked in the kitchen from which they have since been freed. Willing interrogates you to get a more precise picture of the events. ”From outside the arrival of the helicopter could be heard, its rotor blades cutting the air and causing the old building to vibrate. Robespierre hugged Sara with a passion as if it were a goodbye forever and left the room. He hurried to the first floor to pack his things to then enter the library. The investigation was probably over. White markings surrounded the location of the dead man. Concerned, he looked at the outlines of the dead man before he released Excalibur from his hiding place to hide it under his wide cloak. Sara returned to the drawing room with her father after she had greeted him enthusiastically on the steps.
Robespieere hurried out of the house to the waiting helicopter without anyone stopping him. He handed the pilot his travel bag and took off his coat and put it loosely over his forearm, allowing him to smuggle Excalibur on board unseen. Once more he looked wistfully at the manor house before he left English soil through the increasingly loud howling of the rotor blades to return to France.
During the two and a half hour flight he tried to review the events of the past few days, but his concern for Sara's well-being overwhelmed him throughout the flight. The helicopter landed on a meadow in Richelieu Park. His arrival attracted a lot of attention so he left the park in a hurry to return to his hotel in a taxi. When he arrived in Richelieu, he was received with great friendliness. He hurried to his room, furnished with antiques, to hide Excalibur behind a wall panel that he laboriously removed and then carefully reassembled. Then, exhausted, he climbed into the old steel tub that had been lovingly restored to take a long shower. Robespierre propped his tired body on the bathroom wall to regenerate his exhausted flesh with the hot jets of water. He closed his eyes and suddenly found himself in a village square long before the Dark Ages. Looking down at himself, he realized that this time he had a tangible body.
